Ingredients (Serves 4)
For the Meat Filling:

500g ground lamb (or beef for Cottage Pie)

1 onion (chopped)

2 carrots (diced)

1 cup peas
-
2 tbsp tomato paste

1 cup beef stock
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp oil
-
Salt & pepper
For the Mashed Potato Topping:

5–6 potatoes
-
2 tbsp butter
-
½ cup milk
-
Salt
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Make the Potato Topping

Peel potatoes and cut into chunks.

Boil in salted water for 15 minutes until soft.

Drain the water.
-
Add butter, milk, and salt.
-
Mash until smooth.

Set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Meat Filling

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.

Add chopped onions and carrots; cook until soft.

Add the ground lamb/beef and cook until browned.

Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.

Pour in beef stock and Worcestershire sauce.

Add peas and stir everything together.

Simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.

Add salt and pepper to taste.
Step 3: Assemble the Pie

Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F).

Pour the meat filling into a baking dish.

Spread the mashed potatoes on top.

Use a fork to create lines (helps with browning).
Step 4: Bake

Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.
